Henry ‘Hank’ Hernandez is an Army veteran with 20+ years of experience in roles of increasing responsibility focused on anti-money laundering, fraud, internal investigations, sanctions, counterterrorism, threat finance, market abuse, business management, and policy/procedure implementation. Prior to joining HSBC, Hank served as an Intelligence Officer with the United States Army and later the Defense Intelligence Agency working on a wide array of homeland security and intelligence challenges spanning the Middle East and Western Hemisphere. Hank joined HSBC in 2015 through the Financial Intelligence Unit and went on to serve as a Senior Manager for Major Investigations and later as the US Head of External Engagement for Financial Crime Compliance. In these roles, Hank led/oversaw the firm’s most important AML-related investigations ensuring precise risk mitigation and regulatory compliance with many investigations requiring delicate liaison with Federal and local law enforcement bodies. In his quest to grow professionally and learn more about the business, Hank accepted a new challenge leading Business Management-related activities in support of the firm’s treasury services business for Commercial and Global Banking. Following a successful stretch assignment supporting treasury services, Hank went on to his current role leading AML and CDD policy/procedures and supporting the business financial crime risk team for Wholesale Banking where he works directly with the first line of business to mitigate risk before it materializes.
Hank is also HSBC’s National Chair for the firm’s Veterans Employee Resource Group known as Valor. In this capacity Hank oversees Valor-related volunteer activities, including internal and external engagements serving the veteran community. Hank is proud Military Veteran with multiple deployments in austere environments understanding firsthand the sacrifices and challenges faced by our veterans and their families as they serve and defend our great nation.
In his spare time, Hank enjoys quality time with his son, outings with family, fine dining with his beautiful wife, playing with his dogs, working out, traveling, and catching his beloved New York Yankees and Knicks. An admitted sports fanatic, he feeds his addiction by watching the Yankees religiously and the Knicks when possible.
