ACAMS Northern California Chapter May 2026 Event: Beyond the Game: Human Trafficking and the World Cup
Overview
As global attention turns to the FIFA World Cup and the San Francisco Bay Area, the risks of human trafficking and exploitation surrounding major international events increase significantly. Criminal networks often exploit the influx of visitors, temporary workforces, and heightened economic activity tied to such events. This timely and important program brings together experts from law enforcement, financial institutions, the private sector, non-governmental organizations, and host-city stakeholders to explore how cross-sector collaboration can strengthen efforts to detect, disrupt, and prevent human trafficking before, during, and after the World Cup.
Hosted in partnership with ACAMS at the American Bookbinders Museum in San Francisco, this event will feature expert insights from Thomson Reuters Special Services, law enforcement professionals, and financial institutions with experience identifying illicit financial flows linked to trafficking operations. Speakers will share lessons learned from major sporting events, including the Super Bowl, and discuss how these insights can be applied to the upcoming World Cup environment.
Attendees will gain valuable exposure to a real-world investigation case study, illustrating how trafficking networks operate and how financial intelligence and public-private partnerships play a pivotal role in uncovering and dismantling these activities. The program will also include a moderated panel discussion with cross-sector perspectives, offering practical strategies and collaborative frameworks to enhance prevention, detection, and response efforts.
Following the formal presentations, participants are invited to attend a networking reception to foster meaningful connections and continue the discussion with peers and experts. This event is designed for professionals across compliance, law enforcement, risk management, and related fields who are committed to combating financial crime and human exploitation in the context of global events.
