ACAMS Australasian Chapter April 2026 Event: The role of the AML/CTF Compliance Officer: Skills, Career Development, and Engaging with the Board

Brien has a diverse career spanning Technology Operations, Banking, Enterprise Program Delivery and Financial Crime.  Brien recently contracted to a Big 4 Australian Bank where he established a new regime for managing the Financial Crime risks associated with new and existing customers in select ‘higher risk’ industries, which required a new KYC and ECDD approach.

Prior to that Brien worked in a Financial Crime consulting practice where he provided SME knowledge across a variety of engagements including AML Program uplifts, Independent Reviews, Cross Border payment reviews for AUSTRAC reporting entities across a variety of industry sectors.

Brien is the co-chair of the ACAMS Australasia Environmental Crimes Task Force and a member of the ACAMS Australasia Board. He holds an International Diploma of AML/CTF from the Manchester University and a Masters of AML/CTF from Charles Sturt University.

Brien lives with his family in Sydney.

Nick Davison is an experienced financial crime partner in PwC’s Risk practice in Sydney. With a career that spans London, Tokyo, Hong Kong Singapore and Sydney, Nick leverages his international experience to manage complex financial crime and transformation challenges. Nick has extensive experience advising clients on establishing and maintaining fit-for-purpose financial crime operating models, as well as designing, implementing, and upskilling teams’ capabilities, supporting infrastructure, and controls.

Jamie Lynch is Head of AML Risk at Gilbert + Tobin, where he leads the design and implementation of the firm’s anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing programme in preparation for Australia’s Tranche 2 reforms.

With more than a decade of experience in financial crime compliance, Jamie specialises in building practical, risk-based AML frameworks for complex professional services environments. His work focuses on translating regulatory obligations into operational policies, onboarding controls, and training that work in practice.

Jamie is an active contributor to industry discussion on financial crime risk, regularly speaking and writing on Tranche 2 implementation, emerging financial crime threats, and the evolving role of professional services in the AML regime.

Kylie Shaftesbury-Brooks is the Head of Financial Crimes Compliance at JPMorgan Chase Bank for Australia and New Zealand. She has held this position for the past 14 years, leading highly complex regulatory initiatives and onsite inspections.

Kylie has more than 30 years’ experience working in various roles within the banking sector in Australia, London and New York and 20+ years in financial crimes compliance.
