ACAMS Malta Chapter March 2026 Virtual Event: Beyond Following the Money: Asset Recovery in the Age of Crypto-Enabled Financial Crime

March 6, 2026 / 3PM–4:30PM CET Online 1 ACAMS Credit

Overview

The explosion of cryptocurrency-enabled crime and attendant transnational money laundering has outpaced the capacity of traditional investigative and recovery frameworks worldwide. From the EU's transformative Anti-Money Laundering Package (AMLD6, the establishment of AMLA, and MiCA) to the US Executive Orders on digital asset enforcement, the UK's Economic Crime Plan, and evolving regulatory regimes across Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Latin America — jurisdictions are converging on a shared imperative. The FATF 40 Recommendations — particularly Recommendations 4, 30, 38, and the updated guidance on virtual assets — set the global baseline. The mandate is clear: identifying illicit funds is no longer sufficient. Restituting victims, recovering, managing, and repurposing criminal assets for the public good is the true measure of success — regardless of where they are held or how they move.
