Overview
As Australia's AML/CTF regime continues to evolve, this exclusive webinar brings together senior leaders from AUSTRAC, the Australian Federal Police, and the banking sector to explore the fundamental "why" behind our collective efforts in financial crime prevention.
The real "why" starts with understanding the genuine economic and social harm that financial crime inflicts on our society. Without measurable damage to communities, businesses, and individual lives, our whole regulatory framework would serve no meaningful purpose.
We don't invest billions of dollars and countless hours in prevention efforts just to meet compliance obligations. We do it because financial crime causes real, tangible harm that demands our collective response.
Moving beyond traditional compliance checklists, this session will examine the deeper strategic questions that should drive our purpose-driven approach:
- What are the actual economic and social costs of financial crime in Australia?
- How do we measure and communicate the real-world impact we're working to prevent?
- Why do current frameworks exist, and how effectively do they address these harms?
- How can public and private sectors better align their strategic thinking around protecting society?
This timely discussion aims to reinforce our shared mission by exploring:
- Understanding the real economic and social impacts that justify our collective efforts
- Measuring and communicating the tangible benefits of financial crime prevention
- Moving from reactive compliance to proactive, harm-reduction approaches
- Anticipating emerging threats to Australian communities and economy
- Building shared understanding of our collective social responsibility
